Apart from Enya I come from rock. I have all of Rainbow's albums - excellent group. I also have all Queens albums.

Whisky in the Jar by Thin Lizzie was a real classic.

The only groups I would add are Dire Straits and Roxy Music. Their song Virginia Plain turned many hard core metal fans to buy their first single when I was at school : )

My son's group does covers from many of the groups above - Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf being their opener.

In Love and Light,

Adrian.

Hi All ~

Driving my grandchildren to pick up mommy the other day, I played a cd from the Korr's. An Irish Rock band, that one of my daughters brought into our home years back.

Great vocals, percussion, wind and string music...

This has been rated by both a 2 and 4 year of age, by request ...

Mmm...

Hello,

I like to join in and mention some impressive guitarists here that are less known to most people out there....     If you like the guitar, you'll be more then pleased with some of these guys and there's different playing styles in this post, so I think there's one player for everyone's taste.

As the videos posted here will show, I've always had an interest in people who truly 'mastered' an instrument and totally go for the art of playing in itself to express themselves via the instrument. All of these video's are Live videos, and there's more to be found of any of these musicians - I'll just post 1-3 videos of each. There's both electric- and acoustic guitar stuff here, as well as finger- and pickstyle players.

ACOUSTIC STUFF:

Here's a nice uplifting fingerstyle song by Eric Roche:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTa6_ug4k_k

Andy Mckee, great acoustic fingerstyle extraordinaire :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddn4MGaS3N4&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsD6uEZsIsU&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tn1d5DmdMqY&feature=related

Don Ross, who has inspired Andy Mckee:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkidVP0AcQ8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0mUeDuMgXs

Tommy Emmanuel playing 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow':
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZNJf-h7F8s

Here's Pat Metheny, playing 'Into The Dream', which sounds a bit like 'ambient' music on a guitar... a guitar that probably won't fit in an average case:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XYkcNmdQu0

Paco De Lucia & John McLaughlin:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83ud_l-RHYE

ELECTRIC STUFF

Gutrhie Govan can play pretty much all styles. Here he has fun with the country style, in front of live audience at NAMM 2005 in the USA, which sounds and looks funny, uplifting and impressive to me:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyRB8d7S4xc&NR=1

Guthrie is apparently hired to promote the sales of backing tracks like this one, over which he improvises like a maniac:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUZK9dasP8s&feature=related

Jimmy Bruno, a great jazz guitarist:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5681905126221059173&ei=9EDySLnuJ42uiAKDiJ3vDg&q=jimmy+bruno

Michael Landau, a studio musician who has come out with his own music shares a song of his... check out the solo in this one (audio quality is not so good, but it's still worth it):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_asaBet8u5g#

This is Shawn Lane, starting out slowly and then goes in an intense moment of playing with the spirit of Hendrix, mixed with his rare technical mastery:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpzLTJ_9twc

Here's Frank Gambale, who plays one of his own classics, which is ofcourse played Live:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=579UZXOpeUw

Lot's more videos that I like to share...but....well... this will have to do for now Smiley

Yeah, I really do like enya - even though I don't listen to her often, she does have beautiful music Adrian.  I am a huge jazz and classical music fan.  As far as bands/artists/songs, there are a few I'd like to list that really pick me up.  First and foremost, there is a song that has been re-done many times by countless artists.  It originates from the 17 or 1800s and it is a folk song.  It's called, "The trees do grow so high" and my favorite version is from Papa M (a local folk musician from Kentucky).  You can hear a segment of this song on amazon.com if you look it up and check out the samples.  It's on an album called Six (I highly reccomend it!)  It brings you down to nature and really envokes a positive mood.  The song is good enough that I bought the album for that song only.
I also think Ms. Robinson from Simon & Garfunkle is a timeless peice of music.  It always puts me in a good mood as well.  There is something pure about folk music.
I'm also a huge Beatles fan.

Music is an extremely powerful influence on everyones life. Lyrics and beets do different things to each and every one of us. Before this was even posted Ive been Going through my Ipod lately paying more attention to what my subconscious mind has chosen for me to listen to. It is eye opening. I like a wide varied of music influences. Heavy metal, Psychedelic, country, classical have all been chosen for me to enjoy. Ironically each song has a specific message for me. Be it from Ozzy Over the mountain ( Astral Projection). Eagles Hotel California (Death) Pink Floyd  Embryo (being a fetus and birth) Rem Man on the Moon (questioning all we have been taught) Joan Osborne One of us (who is God) Roger Waters What God Wants (God has all control over us Good or Bad and all is a lesson) John Denver Poems Prayers and Promises (enjoy simple life slow down and pay attention) ETC ETC ETC. Someone may look at these songs and see it a totally different way as I. That's what makes music such a profound influence on us all.

Hi Adrian,

I also enjoy listening to Enya.  I've enjoyed listening to the songs you posted links to quite a few times, but I've never seen the videos until now, so thank you very much for sharing those links.

Currently my favorite musician is Thom Brennan.  I very much enjoy meditating to his music or any other time.  For me his music is very captivating, mystical, and inspiring.  His music always fills me with an immense amount of love and happiness.  I always feel like I'm in a mystical paradise when listening to his music.

Does anyone like/heard of the band Tortoise?  They have exceptionally good instrumental music.  Guitar, bass, vibraphone, drumset, etc.  It's very visual music if you understand what I mean, soundscapish.  I recommend checking them out.

I have many favourite musicians/songwriters/singers going way back to people like Sinatra, Bing Crosby, then Matt Monroe, Englebert etc...
Great singers.
Slade, Status Quo, Free, and the rest of the great bands from the 60s/70s always always bring back happy memories.
There are many more, but the one guy who stands above all others due mainly to the inspiring and thought provoking lyrics that he produces is....Bob Dylan.

Oh yes.  Sinatra and Dean Martin were excellent singers.  I very much enjoy listening to Dino - good vibes from that guy.  I also get good feelings when listening to a lot of the oldies - i.e. The Beatles, The Temptations, Roy Orbison, etc.

Someone at work just introduced me to E.S. Posthumus.  It is like gothic/cathedral instrumental rock with orchestra and operatic vocals/chant. .  It's hard to explain.
If you haven't heard them I'd check them out.

Here are a few clips from them on youtube:

Just passing through here ~ dropping a Love note ~  cool

This video is not for everyone. I say this upfront, in your face and eyes and mean IT.

I accept All, I Am Universal Child of God, Supreme Source of All that IS. Just planting a ... seed...

Sommer and Sara, Namaste. Truth. You are the Beautiful Youthful Spirit Being multiplied within me, reminding me, re-member-ing Me.

I AM GOD SEED ... GROW WITH US ...

So in the Eyes of Love looking at me in every way shape and form. The GOOD, The BAD and yes folks, The UGLY, KISS the Skeleton In your Life experience. Shed your Tear. IT will Nourish You. Let IT GO... Say it. Let it die.

A very foundational Key to UnLocking the Eternal Uni(together... aahh...mmm..)..ExPeri... Verse. Spoken word in my understanding. rolleyes

Julia?

Yes Sommer, Yes Sara... I am listening...

You really need to Lighten up. Begin InJoying what you are. This is our music 'Mom" this is who we are "My Child (separated from Universal God SEED)' MINE. MINE. MINE. GIMME dis gimme dat. Not WOW. I love you. You are the most awesomest BE ing I've ever known.

Julia? YESSSS Sommer and Sara. Just do it! Let your hair down, let IT ALL hang out there ... and this applies to All. wink

Darrell? Dominatrix? Photo? I am expressing via another aspect of myself which I am willing to own. So Ramble On has brought me to an up to date sharing in this Eternal Now moment carrying IT in me, within the Ones Who Know Me Intimately, they expressed Love's Eyes here looking straight at me;

Here is where I am At in the Now: Re-member-ing, Never stop BLOOMING. Hold the Bloom. Stay, Remain in Harmony. You then Love everything and every one. Would you chose any less for yourself? Just a Love thought passing through..Love you...

I see myself here. Namaste.

Thank you Julia,

I know the song as I hear it on my car radio however I never seen the video before.

What a beautiful video!!! It totally sums up the 'shadow' the darkness that is a part of us which can never be conquered or subdued but needs be reintegrated in our persona in order to make the passage of the soul from mortal to immortal.

Rihanna is very talented, true and real. No posing, no pretending, no masks of devious feminity to hide behind exploiting the "man's nature" as sadly a lot of young performers are doing.  I am totally with you here sister. Wink

love - Laura
