Hello and Good Health To All,
Had read about what is called "winters Itch", some months back, and followed posted comments with interest, for no reason at all. So when I took a fresh look at "winters Itch" , was surprised to see a huge number of hits on that subject. So my curiosity led me to ask myself "what would I actually do if I were a victim of winters Itch"!
So while one endeavors to master, mind healing, often it becomes necessary to utilize the tools at hand. Yes, ones mind is also at hand, with those subtle, yet un-mastered areas, that still require more training, so on with the practice sessions.

My thoughts are posted on my blog. It's a bit lengthy so wont post the full write here.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
to me, only a thorough whole body system seems to be possible solution, and I would use an herbal method. This thought is based on all the failed or partial relief received, comments that I read about online. All the herbs listed here, I've used many in one way or another or still use for those occasions I want or need to use for a purpose. If anyone else were crazy enough or desperate enough to even think of doing the same as I would, don't. I'm some what experienced with using herbs for my needs. I'm not allergic to any of them, some are very potent, and need to be researched by users to become aware of the possible down side, in their use.

Hello Talker,

How did you learn about the healing power of herbs? From books? Family tradition?

Do you collect and dry your own herbs or do you buy them?

Hello Talker,
How did you learn about the healing power of herbs? From books? Family tradition?
Do you collect and dry your own herbs or do you buy them?

Hello Melody,
Well for starters, it's a long story that goes back to the 1950's. Believe that around that time, I was running into many situations, that were rattling my belief factors in many areas. Doctors, hospitals, clinics, humanity, love, compassion, church, and religion were starting to weigh heavily on my existing beliefs. Believe me when I say, I was the absolute square peg in all areas at that time. Even to the point of "my country, right or wrong" beliefs. How my belief factors have changed would consume many pages in a large book. Will spare you the details though. (LOL)
So now, to your question. Part of your answer is on my most recent post # 31:

http://waysofahealer.blogspot.com/2007/11/31-winters-itch-and-herb-thoughts.html

This post was done when I realized that my earliar post (# 30) left some things unsaid, and open to further questions. So basically, my herb knowledge derives from books, and led to my taking two courses in herbal useage. The books and courses were only door openers to more study, and still continues. I don't pretend nor claim to be, the final authority on herbs usage, but find it humerus, yet serious, when I find REAL doctors in various fields, that have no idea what they are writting about. That is another story that I might some day write a post on.

No family traditions involved here, but a scant bit of herb usage from my mother. Had often thought about picking up a forty acre plot to start a herb farm, but never followed up on it. So with great as possible care I do buy them. At any given time, can have 30 to 50 types of herbs to experiment and formulate from.

While I can at times be quite venturesome, I am very alert to the fact that certain herbs are very potent and are to be used with care and respect. Growing and harvesting herbs is an art, (and another story) demanding skills that come by trial and error. Did in a number of posts, write on how some herbs were used. My blogging efforts are a means of leaving a trail for the family to peruse after I have crossed over. Many herbs make a wonderful tasting tea. While I have had many issues with the bible, mention is made there about herbs. So while herbs can contribute much for pleasure or medicine, many other factors are involved maintaining and correcting health problems.

Properly used herbs can correct, or fill the void left, once a doctor states "we've done all we can, go home and put your house in order".

Hello Talker,

I remember reading somewhere that the best time to harvest herbs is at full moon. Do you know anything about this, since you read a lot about it?

Hi Melody
Ah yes, you had to inquire about about one of my conundrum questions. (LOL) Where does fiction end and fact commence on many issues one encounters! While I give credence to lunar based influences based on certain experiences, to obtain precise information on plant life cycles, would have to be from impeccable sources or personal experience. On the farm my 2nd dad would show me when crops were ready for harvest. Don't recall any other factors being involved. Now, if I were to be harvesting herbs on an herb plot, you bet I would be gleaning as much information as possible. Now we have a vast array of data to sort out on the internet and much easier than through older manuscripts. Though older manuscripts would to me, be invaluable as a source of information. Having said that, I simply make what I need and let it "cook" as I call it, and according to the ingredients, this could be a few days up to a new moon / full moon cycle time equivalent, especially for cut root type herbs. American Indian lore regards plant spirits etc, is much alive within me. Following moon cycles for herb "cooking" , would be highly impractical for me. When I need a formula, in most cases, I needed it, yesterday as the saying goes. Also the way I make my formulations, following the lunar cycles (desired) would intensify the strength beyond  what I normally obtain.I also do not get hung up on strict protocols. When I need some specific, I make it and will immediately start using it, even though no "cooking" process was applied. By "cooking" I mean letting the formulation set/steep in the menstruum (vodka, apple cider vinegar) or water until finally used up, no heat is applied. While I use simple terms to describe things here, I do recall having to keep a dictionary along side of my herb books, to comprehend some terms used in the books. So learning how to use and make herb formulas can range from simple to complex. An aside to lunar cycles, is herbs and the bible were what led me to needing information in chemistry and astrology. No whiz at either, but knowledgeable to some degree.
Be Well.

Hello Talker,

Thank you for letting me know all of the above!   smiley

Hi Melody and All Readers,
Here is where you can see videos from one of my teachers and the videos he made, using herbs. I describe some formulas on my blogs, and here at YouTube, you can see how they are made, and to learn from.

(Dr Schulze's videos)

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Dr%20Schulze's&search=Search&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&spell=1

(My blogs are:)

The Psychics Blog -  http://thepsychicsblog.blogspot.com/
The Healers Blog -   http://waysofahealer.blogspot.com/
Razors Edge -   http://anotherlookatit.blogspot.com/

Did mention in my blog, about making / recording my ancient videos (VHS) into a format that can be put onto DVD. Very time consuming process. Only about 30 more VHS videos to go. No matter which process one uses, the minimum time involved is about two hours, start to finish. Special recorders are available, but reading on-line about the difficulty involved in the process, discouraged me from buying the units.
So I go at it with what I know works. Information on these videos are priceless.

The videos are already ( even on YouTube) showing degradation, and is why I want to DVD them. Had to chuckle with one YouTube comment, about the clothing shown in the videos. This goes back to the 1980's.

Hello Talker,

Those are really interesting videos with Dr. Schulze on how to make herbal remedies. I saw the first one and will look at the other ones on the weekend.

Thank you for posting the link!

Hello Talker,

I just watched all the videos with Dr Schulze, I really enjoyed them! I will try the ‘plague tonic’. It could be great in salads!
Thank you very much for posting this!

It is not clear to me though what does he do with Hawthorne Berrie? Does on just eat them dry or you make a tincture? How? They have a pit, can they still be blended?

Hi Melody,
Glad you enjoyed them. Watch it though, (plague tonic’. It could be great in salads!)is called Super Tonic  (and sells at $12.00 an ounce by the way) with a wide ranging field of use. Yes indeed, the family went nuts over using my fresh batches of Super Tonic as salsa, and I will squirt a couple of dropperfuls of mature Super Tonic onto my salads. Use the Hawthorne berries in what ever way you chose. Will pound, cut, saw, mash or what ever I need to do, to obtain what I need for a formula.

Hello Talker,

I just came across a complex and interesting recipe for a herbal poison antidote:

"But the most famous antidote is that of Mithridates, which that king is said to have taken daily and by it to have rendered his body safe against danger from poison. It contains costmary 1.66 grams, sweet flag 20 grams, hypericum, gum, sagapenum, acacia juice, Illyrian iris, cardamon, 8 grams each, anise 12 grams, Gallic nard, gentian root and dried rose-leaves, 16 grams each, poppy-tears and parsley, 17 grams each, casia, saxifrage, darnel, long pepper, 20.66 grams each, storax 21 grams, castoreum, frankincense, hypocistis juice, myrrh and opopanax, 24 grams each, malabathrum leaves 24 grams, flower of round rush, turpentine-resin, galbanum, Cretan carrot seeds, 24.66 grams each, nard and opobalsam, 25 grams each, shepherd's purse 25 grams, rhubarb root 28 grams, saffron, ginger, cinnamon, 29 grams each. These are pounded and taken up in honey. Against poisoning, a piece the size of an almond is given in wine. In other affections an amount corresponding in size to an Egyptian bean is sufficient.["

It came from this website
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mithridates_VI_of_Pontus

This once again attests to the power of herbs to detoxify the poisons inside a human body.
