Man fined $5,200 for growing cucumbers in basement

(NaturalNews) Mission, British Columbia, resident Len Gratto recently experienced the wrath of local city officials who fined him $5,200 for growing cucumbers in his basement. Under current laws, municipal regulators are permitted to enter premises on suspicion that a homeowner is illegally growing marijuana -- and even if no pot is found, they can levy the fines anyway.

"It's upsetting they can do this," explained Gratto to The Province. "We were growing cucumbers in the basement because they wouldn't take outside."

Several other area residents have been wrongly targeted by officials and levied fines for engaging in legal activities as well, including Stacy Gowanlock who was order to pay roughly $10,000 in fees and "repair orders" because investigators found traces of "dirt" in her basement and "a furnace pipe going up into the chimney, where it should be."

The grow-op bylaw programs used to search properties on the marijuana suspicions state that municipal inspectors can enter homes simply because they use excessive amounts of water. Once inside, there is no requirement that inspectors find any actual evidence of marijuana -- they are free to levy fines if they determine the presence of what they determine to be "residual" evidence, such as soil or even high mold counts. And if residents fail to comply with the unreasonable orders, they could have their house deemed unsafe and unsellable by local officials.

Gratto, Gowanlock and others have signed on to a class-action lawsuit that says such searches are a violation of citizens' rights. The entire process is a scam, say residents, and they would like to see the program eliminated.

Councilwoman Jenny Stevens told reporters that she no longer supports the program, despite supporting it initially, because at least half of those inspected are innocent. But in the end, they still end up having to pay lofty fines and suffer the embarrassment of having their homes raided as if they were illicit drug dealers, which is ultimately doing more harm than good.

Hi Beloved Talker and Laura,

Sad, but becoming increasingly more experienced, as you have shared here Talker, in your post. Now, one is suspect until proven innocent...and pays for the blunders.

Friends expressed the possibility of being 'watched' by authorities when I was contemplating growing tropical plants in my basement through the harsh Kansas winters. All from the red light to authorities of increased water usage in my plot of the earth.

I was like, 'WOW! You've got to be kidding me!! I just don't think this way at all!' Obviously others do...

There are people in Washington right now, speaking up for our rights to be able to keep our freedom of being able to grow our own food without being taxed heavily or prosecuted, and to be able to choose to eat organically grown foods without any chemical modifications or pesticides. Honest, there are ones who are of the mind that we should be forced to eat only the food grown by and provided by the Governmental agencies...or risk being violators of 'the laws' of the government.

Tossing a bit of trivia into the mix ~

and I muse, with all the possible things we can do together for raising the quality of life on this planet for all people...

Holy moly. Well i used to grow weed for myself cos i didnt like paying for it... Now i grow other things like strawberrys, kanna, and spices of different sorts. Hydroponically of course.

If you want a covert indoor grow, LED growlights are highly efficient and closed deep water compartments with cycling oxygenation (think fish tank bubblers) you can effectively have a completely clean (except plant waste) environment without high electrical or water demand. But mind you I only have a single walk in closet rigged with lighting without any significant electrical drain. The AC draws more power than anything.

Those people were clearly not growing for distribution; they werent paranoid enough!!!

Well now, appears that changes are happening all around the world. Would have to say that the worldwide web, through places like Facebook, Twitter. etc, are playing an active part in it all. While there are reams of information on line that contribute to what I'll term uprisings and turmoil, very little is in terms of personal and individual ways to assure that mostly good or better energies are contributing to our worlds 2012 / 2013 event.
 
We, each and every soul on this planet are participants in what is taking place worldwide. How we think, act and do is part of the overall energies affecting this world. No one is insignificant. No one is isolated or alone with their ways of  thinking, acting and doing.

We all, each and every soul alive on this alive dynamic active planet called earth, makes contributions that affects what happens worldwide.

Nations are awakening. People are becoming more aware of a 'something' that creates an unrest deep within themselves. This leads to turmoil, and uprisings.
They are reaching out for something that they may not yet fully understand.
Not to say that I fully understand it all, yet there is a learning curve involved. Through forums such as this one and a few others, there are certain voices speaking out. Certain other souls giving suggestions that meditation, prayer, thinking good thoughts, and being 'mindful' plays a major role not only at a personal level, but in world events. So I repeat 'No one is insignificant. No one is isolated or alone with their ways of  thinking, acting and doing.'

Souls get locked into certain colors or frequencies and forget that within us is that Divine spark called God. That Divine spark is a dynamic energy. It tolerates no stagnancy. It begs outward expression. Lacking outward expression, certain energies are released that are not harmonious with our or this planets needs, It begs outward expression of Unconditional Love toward one another and toward all life forms.

So easy to get off ones personal life frequency, what with ones every day activities of hustle bustling to survive daily activies. Easy to lose sight of our spiritual nature and get locked in to the frustration or annoyance of daily living instead of enjoying it.

In hearing, reading or seeing wrongs, one does assist by mentally correcting those wrongs. May not happen immediately, but rest assured that doing so does in deed creates an outlet for that Divine spark within to manifest outwardly, corrective actions.

Ah yes, ever so many more thoughts that could be added here.

I just watched the movie Sedona Method which talks about welcoming all there is: thought, emotions, beliefs, unrests, irritations, wanting to control, change things, inner turmoil, upsets, depressing thoughts, the impact we have on others etc etc... and basically everything that gives us the identity of whom we are.

Welcoming all of that and not suppressing it, the moment you suppress it it will rise fiercer than before, then asking yourself - do I really want all that, do I want to keep it?
Then breathing deeply and releasing it...

So what you describe right above I see it as a deep humanity breath of releasing all that is and is not serving us anymore.

And yes truth is that WE are WE. We are all in it.

Ah yes, experiencing ones life path will eventually bring one to a fork in the road. One can continue the same as you were before awareness set in, or deliberately realize that learning on ones life path is not a pursuit, but a process. Learning and doing only at an intellectual level, will keep one locked in to a 'something is missing' mode. Only when ones life experiences, permeate ones inner core of spirituality will that 'something is missing' mode start to diminish.

All life experiences are brought about through ones interaction with all life forms. Humans, animals, and the very earth we stand upon, are contributing to ones life experiences.

Awareness that all is one, once embraced, is quite likely to ensure that you will become a loner, in the sense that you will be independent and free. You will not feel bonded to groups or rules. No one will make your decisions for you. Yet at the same time you will feel a very spiritual bond with everyone and everything. You will see your responsibilities clearly, and you will see the responsibilities of others clearly.

It is as though you will see all people as individual universes. Each is a tiny bubble floating through space under its own power and direction. Every so often two of these bubbles come together, and like bubbles, they blend and overlap. They may blend for a very short period of time, or for a long time. While blended, these bubbles share certain portions of themselves with one another while still maintaining their own identities and autonomy. At some point, the bubbles separate and float on to experience other bubbles. The same bubbles may come together for a while, then float apart for a while, then rejoin again, and so on.

So it is with you and your interactions with others. You give experience to, and gain experience from, others. But you and they still remain the masters of your own learning and spiritual growth. It is impossible to give without also receiving, be it a positive or negative energy.

Those positive or negative energies can  be faced with unconditional love, hatred, or indifference, the choice made though, is always ones personal responsibility.

So now, here we see unusual activities, earth and nature wise. Rain drought, earthquakes, hot and cold periods breaking old world records. All, natural periodic events, Kinda see these past few years as leading to what many refer to as 'the 2012' event, again a normal, yet unusual periodic 'happening'.

What is not normal though, are the wars that are still taking place. Young men and women being maimed or killed on the alter of greed and the so called 'progress' to improve living conditions world wide!  Notice also that the so called 'middle' class of people are being seriously disfranchised. There are those with greedy eyes, that see ones ownership of a home, or coin of the land you have, as not lawfull and you must be deprived of it through taxes or other subtle means.

Seeing that 'men of good will' are in a minority now, it get difficult to make needed adjustments.

How it all turns out is still up for grabs. The economy has tanked, work (jobs) have disappeared, food, water and air supplies polluted,  earth surfaces paved over, forest areas stripped all in the name of progress. Makes for a 'sorry' world scenario.

Whoa now!  Did we or did we not 'create' the reality now being experienced!  Advanced thinking scientists, now say we do, in some fashion 'create' our reality, individually and en masse.

Is where this forums beliefs are, that we do create our reality. 
So, if true, there has been some 'cruddy' creative thinking processes at work, for the world to have reached the current state of world affairs.

It's not going to be a glorious battle making corrections, it will be a bitter tasting battle. Lives will be lost. Earth disruptions will and are already taking place. Yet none of this is really new. Been going on since day one of creation. Whose mind was at work in all that chaos that followed that creativity period! Men's mind at work, right! Love thy neighbor as thine self, never really took hold, did it.

Until love, unconditional love becomes a normal part of the human race, that bitter 101 learning curve will always be just that a 'bitter' learning experience.

In that it must start with me, let it start within me now.

I love you.

Can you see that Divine spark in your neighbor, regardless of race or creed!

Happy Father's Day Beloved Talker and All Dads ~

Reading your expression here, brought to mind a conversation I had recently, regarding what it means when we say we are 'creating' our reality...

Another one of those conundrums of refining the language moments...depending upon what one means by creating. Creating as in making something from nothing? Is it from nothing, or is it from not being aware that there is more than what I may currently be aware of seeing? Creating as in bringing something forth that does not already exist in the Eternal Mind of the All? This Mind who does not live in time nor space, and so, is able to see all the way through the man made calendar known as past, present and future events as... All things happening All at Once? Everything is already 'existing'? 

Is it possible to be able to choose what level of experience one is drawing-'creating' their life picture from? hmmm...as in, everything that is and will ever be possible, is already here and now, it is just a 'matter' of where we are placing our focus upon, to experience our reality asit is right now?

... We ask, 'Which way is it? Spirit Ways or human ways? Is there perhaps an other way that integrates the two as One?

I agree Talker, that it seems war has been going on in this secular world since what can be described as its inception...didn't take long for a dis-agreement to take place and from there, it seems once the spell was cast...it is still re-occuring over and over again throughout mankind's history on this planet. And mankind has been 'trying' to 'fix' it ever since.

...mankind's mind at work...

The idea of Love thy neighbor as thine self not ever really taking hold...what part did not take hold in this idea? I am speaking of the Root. Forgive me for seeming to be of a dis-agreeing mind with any here in what I am about to share. I do not share to dis-agree at all.

I have found as I walk through this life, that until I get the idea of as I Love myself down, I cannot possibly extend this Love to any other. I 'tried' to Love others as best I could, from the 'goodness' of my own human heart, and found myself like a car that kept running out of fuel. It eventually runs out and needs replenishing. From the frustration at being stranded on the side of the road not well travelled, in the middle of no where and no man's land more than once, it brought me to express outloud, a call for some assistance and being willing and open minded at this point, to accept any source of help in whatever possible way it showed up.

And I obviously was helped, or I would not be here writing this right now.

I find that as I have chosen to focus on accepting by first receiving this Love into myself, a matter of seeing myself as worthy of this Love, I now have this Love to extend towards others. I am no longer stuck by being defined by this secular world's ideals of what Love Is based on strings attached ulterior motives.

A friend was sharing about this idea in our conversation last week, when he said he once knew a man, who was seeing a woman and gave her a really nice and expensive 'gift' of a bicycle, because he 'loved' her. And when this woman broke off the relationship with him awhile later, what did he do? He demanded she give the bike back. There were hidden motives in his giving, strings attached. This was not a gift at all. It was manipulation...

Can you Love your neighbor, warts and all? Yes I can, when I am able to receive and apply this Love for myself foundationally first. From the Root Source of UnConditional Love. UnLimited Love, which for me means, Right Mindedness which leads to Right Action. It grows my compassion for my own tender process at the root, and then extends my being more patient and loving with my 'outer child' as I Lovingly tend to my Inner Child. And this UnConditonal Love knows no limits, as in being preferential or selective in whom will be the receiver of IT, IT overflows naturally and touches the lives of all I meet along my way. I am only asked one thing.

To just show up and be a willing vehicle to allow this Love to flow through me. Open the door for another, whether a child, a maiden, or an elderly person at whatever stage of life one is. Share kindness in Love with no preferential treatment of living honestly without hidden motives or with the intention of manipulating others.

It is a life long practice, of integrating the Sacred into the secular in the everyday unfolding of life as life presents itself...

Returning to Being like the Child who awakens each day, and rises up to experience all the impressions of this life, as life shows up, unfolding for this Child, with all of its gifts, hiding all around it, for the Child to unwrap in each moment of experiencing its impressions.

Sound a bit flowery? It all depends on what is ground-ing your Being. InTruth. What you are viewing life primarily from. A subjective point of view or an objective point of view.

Do you see Life as unfolding according to a Greater Purpose? If so, then GOD-Source is doing a very good job, holding up the entire Universe, warts and all...

And from this view, it is amazing what one person can do shine their Light of this Love, in this world at this 'time'. The fields are ripe for the harvest.

Where am I standing? I am standing in the place where I live. Right here, right now, practicing as an Integrated Being, the Sacred and secular all in One. Sharing my portion with those I meet in my unfolding day ~

We are all doing this right now, it's just a matter of how well we know ourself and this really does determine the color of the lens we view our life, others and this world from...



InJoy this day, choosing to be aware of finding this Love Present all around you, and you will experience IT as already Being Here with us ~

# 80 Talker and Relaxing the Silva Way

There are numerous little, life tid-bits, (as I call them) that provide enough of a KEY to allow one to enter into the Inner Silence and find just how they relate to you.

While obtaining answers from others can be a valid source, why not get closer to the True Source and find out for your self! Will doing so make every thing rosy and perfect in life! Give me a break, please.What you will or could have is a better understanding why things are as they are with you.

Often, in matters such as this, I hear that nothing one does seems to work for them.
Well, fret not, just alter the way you prepare for the experience.
Like one saying goes ‘it’s insane to keep doing the same thing over and over, getting the same old nothing results, while expecting some thing new to take place’.

To start, a quite spot, no phone, no radio, no music. (for this first new experience)
Use the floor or a comfortable chair.
Close your eyes, and just be you, while doing NOTHING but being present for just five minutes.
