1  Introductions and Chat / Introductions and Chat / Re: Good movies/series with supernatural as subject on: May 19, 2007, 09:31:46
The Stargate series is awesome because of the parrallels with ancient mythogoly. Either the writers did extensive research ... but I'd like the think they were tapping into some ancient wisdom or memory which inspired their ideas.

Aside from movies, one TV series I loved was "Angel", the spin-off from "Buffy The Vampire Slayer". I never really watched "Buffy" as that seemed for more a younger audience, but "Angel" is amazing, more grittier, adult and darker. The whole theme of Angel being a cursed with a human soul and finding penance for his past sins is inspiring, and all the trials and mad experiences he goes through, I love his character. Plus there are numerous spiritual and occult references and wisdom, so again the writers must be very knowledgable about such things. You can almost personally identify with a character like that on his own hero's journey, overcoming his opponents and his own flawed nature.

I agree, on focusing on our individual consciousness and development. I too have a curious interest in ancient mythologies and their relavence to upcoming events and the situation on earth today - but to me ultimately the way forward is the path of individuation. There is mention of climatic changes which could affect the planet - but intuitively feel as if the personal climates within us must be focused on - as in our own necessary personal healings and resolutions, and the reconditioning and mastery of our mighty subconscious minds. I reckon the state of the planet, aside from phenomena of nature, is a reflection of our own inner worlds, which I believe fundamentally projects into the outer world.
3  Religions and Traditions / Religions and Traditions / Re: Jesus alternative history on: May 11, 2007, 07:06:24
Hello Adrian

I agree, it seems that the orthodox teachings of Christ were just recycled from older myths and traditions, parallels with Mithras, Krishna and Hercules. There was something I think called something like the "Niceone Creed" or something like that which was a gathering of religious leaders around 300AD to establish what the rules, precepts and dogmas of Christianity would be, so it seems Christianity as we know it today didn't start till that date and is a far cry from some of the teachings of the lost gospels. Apparently it was Augustine, who was supposed to be very highly sexed but uncomfortable with his nature, who introduced the prohibition of sex outside of marriage.

Thanks for posting that, Wynewitch, some interesting information in there. Maybe a man called Jesus actually did exist, who was profound psychic abilities, and who was a revolutionist. All the stuff about the immaculate conception, virgin birth and son of god beliefs were probably taken from older religions and legends like Mithraism, Hinduism and the ancient Greek. It would be interesting if Jesus had come back to earth at different points in history and see the acts that people were commiting in his name.

Very interesting, Vincegill.

I suppose I have an interest in discovering an alternative history to Jesus's life as I - and I hope I don't offend any Christians who might be reading this - deep down want to find information that would challenge how the teachings and accounts that are presented in the Bible today. That's intriguing what you say about Jesus being reincarnated as Mohammed. I would be very interesting in knowing the source of this information.

One movie I would highly recommend to members of this forum is M Night Shaymalan's "Lady in the Water". It has had a bad press, but I watched it the other day and thought it was a piece of pure magic - a fairy tale kind of fable in a modern setting. There is some rich use of symbolism and metaphor in the movie, funny characters, and an enchanting score soundtrack. The overall theme is about finding peace and healing after suffering personal tragedy, and finding one's purpose. I love all of this director's movies, as they are unsual and intriguing and present otherworldly realities that are close to our own. It doesn't seem to appeal to mainstream moviegoers, but I have a feeling that people in this forum would find it inspiring.
7  Religions and Traditions / Religions and Traditions / Jesus alternative history on: April 17, 2007, 07:40:50
I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right part of the forum, but I'm wondering if anyone could share any thoughts about Jesus's "missing years". I do not follow any organized religions myself - coming from a Muslim upbringing, and then having an involvment with Christianity and Bible studies (many years ago, now I follow my own path) I have always had an interest in alternatives to the mainstream teachings, such as the Dead Sea Scrolls.

I remember watching the movie "Stigmata" and the quote taken from the Gospel of Thomas - "Split a piece of wood and I am there, life a stone and you will find me"; which connotes a more universal truth. I have come across all these different theories about Jesus' life, such as travelling to India. He was referred to as St Isa in India, and the teachings during his ministry originated from his studies with Buddhist monks, according to certain sources.

Other theories are that he travelled to England with Joseph of Arimethea and and apparently visited Glastonbury - I remember visiting the Chalice Well in Glastonbury and feeling the energy on the Tor, and thought to myself "I would not be surprised if Jesus walked here." Also, he apparently died in Kashmir an old man after having had children with Mary Magdelene - one of the theories in the Da Vinci Code.

Although I am not religious or do not follow any traditional spiritual or New Age path, this is something I still find very interesting nonetheless and wonder what other people thoughts are on this.
8  Our Ultimate Reality / Our Ultimate Reality / Re: How to cope with anti-spiritual people on: April 13, 2007, 10:52:18
I don't really differientiate the world between "spiritual" or "anti-spiritual" people ... people at the most fundamental level are the same to me - each is just a label. But let's just say we are to refer to such labels - having personally been on the receiving end of a lot of judgement and criticism from both "sides" because of my unconventional ways - my material lifestyle and indulgences, and my exploration of the esoteric (I love having each foot in both worlds) I try not to judge people myself - but if I was to differientiate, it would be the people who are conventional and follow the crowd, and people who are unconventional and live by their own rules.  cool
9  Introductions and Chat / Introductions and Chat / Re: 300 Spartans on: April 12, 2007, 13:05:59
Yes, the strength of the Spartans was their ability to function as one cohesive unit and their willingness to protect and sacrifice themselves for one another. I also found inspiring the part where King Leonidas has a private conversation with the invading king emperor Xerses .... Xerses says: "I would gladly kill any of my men for victory"; - Leonidas replies: "And I would gladly die for any of mine".

Apparently, this battle was at a pivotal moment of history, as in ancient Greece the concepts of freedom and democracy was being born, and an end of tyranny. Had the Greeks not defeated Xerses' empire, the world today might be very different.
10  Introductions and Chat / Introductions and Chat / 300 Spartans on: April 12, 2007, 08:30:32
I saw the movie "300" the other day and I was completely blown away. Wondering if anyone else herre has seen it. I love epic battle movies, as they really inspire me and rouse the warrior spirit. Movies are a good way to reprogram the subconscious mind and I feel I can take on any challenge in life. When I see films set in those ancient cultures, I almost feel like I was there in a past life.

As it's based on Frank Miller original graphic novel, there are some fantasy elements, but the visuals and effects are stunning. The lead actor is awesome as King Leonidas, probably the best movie war hero I've ever seen. For those who may not be at ease with the imagery or concept of war or violence - this to me is just an analogy for courage in daily life, and for complete and utter defiance against any sort of tyranny or oppression. I absolutely loved it.  shocked
11  Introductions and Chat / Introductions and Chat / Re-aquainting myself ... on: April 09, 2007, 20:12:11
Hi All

I originally joined this forum a year ago or so, but was not a very active participant ... I was notified about the new look of the sites and forum, and now wish to participate and contribute more.

I'm very much a normal guy in many ways, living a very down to earth life, and doing the things that most twenty-something guys do, I definitely do not claim to be some spiritually evolved being. Being right in the thick of urban culture, I've come across a lot of violence, bitchiness and BS and these days I find myself becoming more and more detached and solitary. I purchased the OUR book about a year and a half ago out of interest but did not read it much, now I find myself referring to it more. I had some involvement in New Age circles but there I found the other extreme, a lot of uptightness, arrogance and smug spiritual superiority. I studied quite a bit material and teachings - ancient traditions, martial arts philosophies and the Toltec path, but my intuition seems to be getting stronger, and I'm looking at the world and societies these days and feel there is something very wrong. Intuitively, I've been led to the teachings of the subconscious mind and exploring things like hypnosis and NLP, as I believe mastery of the subconscious mind to be the way forward.

I look forward to sharing thoughts.
12  Myths and Mysteries / Myths and Mysteries / Re: The Annunaki and the Brotherhood of the Snake on: April 09, 2007, 07:34:17
I have read some of Sitchin's material, together with David Icke's conspiracy angle ... ancient mythology is not something that has always held my interest, but I find these particular stories and ideas quite compelling. In relation to the Sumerian stories are the alternate garden of Eden myths I have across with Yahweh/Enlil as the tyrannical god who wishes to suppress humanity, and the Devil/Ea who wishes to educate humanity ... thus forming the Brotherhood of the Snake. The forbidden fruit according to some sources is a parallel for the sacred expression of sexuality and a remembering of humanity's divine origins.

The Anunnaki or ETs apparently set up their first colonies in Mesopotamia, and built the pyramids and ziggurats there. The different peoples of this part of the world then migrated to India, Egypt, Greece and other places, and all the different religions were gradually created. However, I think a lot of this mythology conflicts with the stories and Lemuria and Atlantis. Can't really prove is any of these stories are 100% true or not, but still fascinating nonetheless. What you say, Adrian, about ET tampering, sounds very plausible.
13  Myths and Mysteries / Myths and Mysteries / The Annunaki and the Brotherhood of the Snake on: April 08, 2007, 10:03:32
I am fascinated with the whole story about Annunaki who came from the planet Nibiru, an unknown planet in our solar system, and came to Earth to mine resources to use for their own planet. They apparently set up colonies in ancient Sumeria and apparently genetically engineered the human race. David Icke refers to them as the reptilian beings who secretly control the planet to this day.

The two main Annunaki gods were Ea and Enlil. Ea was supposed to be compassionate towards the humans and argued against the harsh treatment they suffered by Enlil. Ea founded a group called the Brotherhood of the Snake which taught humans spiritual secrets and their divine origins, but this was stopped by Enlil and the other custodians and banished Ea to a slave life on earth. I'm wondering if any others know this story and what their thoughts are.

Hi Astral Pimp

I'm not too familiar with astral projection, at least not its proper practise which does not involve psychedelic drugs.

I'm guessing that when you leave your body you're experience a sensation completely beyond physical desire, so I couldn't say how sex relates to it, unless you're referring to tantra.

I haven't had a full on astral experience for about ten years but when I did, sex was the last thing on my mind.
