OBE or a dream?

Hi All,

Last night I had a very strange experience, as I was drifting off to sleep I felt myself leave my body I cannot explain fully how it felt to do so but it felt hard/tense and I can remember hearing a dull buzzing noise.  I felt a bit dizzy like when you are goingt to pass out.

I felt myself floating across the corridor into a different room, I can remeber thinking that I was maybe having an OBE and as I tried to pass through the wall I quickly moved back to my sleeping body where my arms and hands felt numb and tingly, shortly after it started to happen again however this time I was in what appeared to  be space, i was travelling very, very fast and can remember the sensation of like force on my skin i was surrounded my moving stars, it i was dark, i thought maybe i could do astral projection but as i was looking around for somewhere to go i think i must have fallen asleep, as I can remember feeling lost and cannot remember anything after that.

Do you think that this was an OBE or do you think I was just dreaming?

Hi tessa,

Yeah I've had quite a few of those experiences.  I'm quite sure you had what would be perceived as an OBE.  It sounds like once you returned to your body your OBE converted into a lucid dream, which is basically the same thing just a different perception.  In any case becoming aware of your projections is always an exciting experience.  Normally I would say the blackness you experienced is called the "3D Blackness", which happens a lot, and those can easily be converted into other perceived projections, but since you were seeing stars and appeared you were in space it could have been a lucid dream I mentioned earlier.  I enjoy when I start traveling through what appears to be space.  That usually happens quite a bit with myself.  The stars are always so bright and there's usually millions upon millions of them.  Like you I always travel very very fast when I have the "outer space" experience.  It's like I'm going through warp speed from Star Trek or something, hehe.  Sometimes I can control the speed at which I travel.  I have to really put my mind to it.  Very seldom do I come to a complete stop, and I usually have to concentrate pretty hard to do so, then I usually lose the experience after that, hehe.

Yes I believe you were having an out of body experience. I have tried for years to have one but never really seemed to be able to. From what you say you seem to experience a lot of the common OBE side effects. A lot of people who have OBEs or APs often fall asleep in the middle of travel resulting in the Astral Body falling asleep or doing predecided things. In a way lucid dreaming is like this but in reverse. In a lucid dream you awaken in a dream instead of falling asleep in a projection. AP & Lucid dreaming is the same thing I believe.
