Hi Lyes,

First off, welcome to the OUR forum~  smiley

Regarding concentration exercises to meditate, there are a several ways to go. Since I was trained in Zen back in the 90's, I tend to do an approach whereby I 'follow the breath'. This is set forth in a great book by Robert Aitken entitled: Taking the Path of Zen and last I checked, was about $2.29 US dollars used, and new from $5.59. see: http://www.robertaitken.net/ and also the Amazon website.

Also, you can obtain the Abyss download. Try http://www.binauralmindpower.com/  It is very helpful in getting you to a meditative state. You also may want to check http://gnomad.info/

All the best,
Nick

Thank you but I can't get those books. I live in Algeria and it's very difficult to get any specific book at all here.
I'll check the links smiley

I was going to make a post about Concentration Exercises but one already exist. Its a little dusty but I'll just use this one.

I have been doing Adrian's exercises. As of today I can count backward from 100-0 3 times in a row! I have some daydreaming in there but it isn't heavy enough to distract me & I keep the daydreams short. I bring my attention back to my counting. I am going to make it to 10 times in a row, I promise thyself.

What helps me the most is as I count down I imagine as if I am writing the number on a white bored. I'll write a number 26 for example on the bored, it disappears & then I write number 25. Don't count to fast or to slow, keep it steady.

I hope this helps someone

I think the main problem for some people, including myself, is that when something doesn't interest me in itself, I have to work for concentration. If I'm PASSIONATE about something, then I can do that that 'something' just fine and be totally focussed on it.

Yeah! I hate counting backwards all the time because I have to start all over. Its lame. But it is good to concentrate on something that does not interest you at all. However when using the Law of Attraction you should only think about what you want.

I have made the three first exercises from OUR
At the beginning this is very difficult, but then you just end up learning the counting and it just becomes like a song in your head, a background song, and you are not focussed at all when you do that.
It's been a while sine I have performed the 3 first exercises and maybe my powers have decreased so I'm starting all over again from exercise 1.
But it is too easy so I complicated things a little bit by doing the exercise in english (I was doing it in french (I mean I spoke the numbers in french in my mind) because that's my native language)
So I suggest you to do that too if you can speak more than one language
Maybe after I'll do it in arabic too.

Hey let's make this topic a source of exercises from which everyone will be able to draw if necessary

Every one just give us exercises you perform, know, or have invented, this would be great I think

Hello Lyes and to all,

I do believe the main purpose of counting backwards from any higher number, is being lost here.
Also, concentration and meditation, are are not the same mode of action. Concentration would be a' training exercise' to teach the 'minds' mind chatter to diminish and eventually be 'still'. In and by itself, the counting is meaningless. The discipline and focus required to backward count, without error, is where the value steps in. Boredom is pointing out that 'focus' is lacking in what is being done.  Daydreaming is due to the boredom and indicating lack of focus. Should be no rush to 'get' through the count or action.
Is not a 'good or bad' sign, only a gauge that indicates more practice is required.
(another method)
Get a small box of wood matches, or toothpicks (use a black or red marker to color only one end) Put them back in the package. Now dump them all onto a flat surface. Now slowly and deliberately replace the matches or toothpicks, one by one, colored ends all pointing one direction, all this while deliberately observing each action.

If one can 'lock' onto a thought, without other thoughts breaking the original thought stream, or only a few minor little side daydream journeys, would be the gauge of progress.  So again, it is not the training process itself that is important, it is the results one obtains from the process being used to learn control.

Be Well

Are you kidding? I'm American. We simply aren't taught any other languages here.

Daydreaming is due to the boredom and indicating lack of focus

All I do is daydream. I have to retreat to my drempt world because I really can't stand this one. I'm not comfortable in my body, I don't have a mate, I don't have anything physical to enjoy. The only place for me to feel alive is in my daydreams. My power to Imagine is strong yet my dreams never bleed into reality.

Does the fact that I'm always day dreaming mean that I don't have any focus or concentration?

lol

If you say you have a strong power of imagination I believe you have a strong ability to focus!!
But your mind has to obey you... If all you can do is daydream maybe it is only for the reasons you have mentionned, but you should try to learn to do other things with your mind.

A good way to improve concentration is to practice music because without a certain ability to concentrate you will not go far in music. With time and exercise of course you will end playing stuff and think about something else, but for beginners, playing will require all your undivided attention.

And in general, I think learning anything new will help to improve your ability to concentrate.

That is true that doing something new takes concentration however it doesn't take a lot. The brain gets used to it. Its not enough Concentration to control your destiny (Genes).

Oh wow Louis?!?

10 years?? you say..

what else have you realised or achieved during these years.
Looking back in what way have they enriched your life?
What is the most important thing that you have done?
What are the most important 10 things that you have done?
Think about 10 people in your life. In what way you have contributed to make their lives better, fuller richer?
If you were to disappear today how will you be remembered? What 10 different things the people that you touched will say about you, as in: "Beacuse of Louis, I know how to...". or   "Because of Louis I have really learned what to..." . or  "If not for Louis I would have never..."

Doing this exercise again, going back 10 years, knowing what you know now, would you have done things more differently?
