Our Ego driven culture over the years has polluted everything holy. I always noticed when Christmas is coming up that things are not how they ought to be. Lets look at these unholy vices and see if they take center stage in our holidays.

Vice            Unholy day

Greed          Christmas

Gluttony      Thanksgiving

Lust            Valentine's Day

Pride           Independence Day

Sloth           Saint Patric's Day

I am not sure where Envy and Wrath fit in. I tried to link them to Halloween and Easter. They aren't as good of a match. I do not know why Halloween is so "Evil" but none the less these other holy days seems to revolve around these Sins.

If you only think "what can I buy Children for Christmas" and not "what do I want for Christmas" you are one of the few exceptions. If you think about "Fasting or a Tofurgy" on Thanksgiving you are one of the few exceptions. If you stay home instead of going to the bars on the Saints day or decide to be a designated drive you are one of the few exceptions. If you buy a lady something on Valentines day unconditionally (not because you want "love" or because you think shes "Attractive") then you are one of the few exceptions. If you are an American and you can Celebrate America while respectfully thinking about others in other countries then you are one of the few exceptions. Pride brings its own trouble.

I know most who will see this will be exceptions. Does anyone disagree? I do hope I am wrong.

I know that these holidays give people opportunities to saturate their egos with selfish stuff, but that doesn't negate their positive meanings for me. Every one of the holidays you mention was founded in order to honor people who served others, in many cases at the expense of their own lives.  I guess it's because I've been around for awhile and am turning into an old fart, but the railing against negative things doesn't work for me anymore (believe me I once thought it did, having been a political activist, a preacher and news reporter).  My life has been much more enriched since I started looking at what's right with things.  And all of these holidays bring me warm memories and great times with family and friends.

Hello Everyone ~  smiley

Wave, thank you for your wonderful contributions to this forum, as you can see it sparks such wonderful responses and heartfelt sharing in us.

Laura, we would have so much fun together sister! Truth!! Just a short sharing on the holidays as you have expressed so wonderfully here. St. Pat's Day, out come the goofy t-shirts, "Irish you were a Leprechaun", "Green was so last year" not to mention the silly hats. Okay, I did say goofy! rolleyes

I've always had a secret spot for Christmas. One of my fondest childhood memories was walking down the cobblestoned main street in Dunoon, Argyll, Scotland. The little shop windows all aglow in the dark wintery lamplit night and the wind blowing swirls of snow dust against the shop walls. It was such a magical moment. I was allowed to have this moment all to myself as no one else was out and it was early evening. I stopped in wonder of it all, breathed it all in and InJoyed this Charles Dickens storybook moment and I said to myself, "I will never forget this." And I haven't, that was 34 years ago!!

DH, truth, I envision you as a Salty Sea Captain with a Heart of Gold, not so much an old fart! wink I agree, we do tend to see what is right with things more so now because we have experienced it otherwise in our lives. We know now, we are free to choose.

I will say here that when ones are experiencing shifts and changes in their lives as to the loss of family, friends and loved ones or all that was once so familiar, it can lead one to depression and feeling all alone and unloved especially during the holiday seasons.

I found that by volunteering to assist with those who are homebound or in a place of transitioning whether homeless or in a financially changing position, it brings a shared Joy with another. Joy is a wonderful healing medicine for depression. It takes our eyes off of ourselves and our seemingly unsolvable 'problems' and the interesting thing is that you come away from the experience thanking Source for sharing the Love with you. I love how 'things' work.

I have said, 'I wish it could be Christmas everday." And you know, I realize it is. wink Just my perspective.

A 'Christmas' seed that can be grown and nurtured everyday;

"We can decide to be happy, to give joy before waiting to receive it. This is not denial, but affirmation of the power inside us.

Embracing joy heals depression." ~ Calendar Reading ~

I truly InJoy you All,

Love in the Divine Spirit of Unconditional Love,

Julia

I knew everyone here would see their positive meanings. That was never a question. I just don't see others seeing the positive meanings. A lot of people go to Church twice a year. Christmas and Easter. They wont be likely to find any positive meanings. I bet people only do that because there in the Holiday mood to do it. Like going to a hunted house on Halloween.

Wow I can't even imagine that long ago!

I love you all and I know you will all enjoy these holidays and see them for what they really are "Holy Days". Most "Materialistic" people how ever will not.

Hi Wave,

You are important.  IMHO You are a unique expression of the divine, as are we all.

You're right that a lot of people do have a materialistic take on the holidays.  Just don't let them get you down.  You deserve better than that.  Energy spent is best spent on the positive!

Hey Julia,

Ha ha ha!  I like the Salty Sea Captain with a heart of gold image!  I guess it is better than being an old fart!

Thanks for your dedication to these forums.  I know it takes a lot of time to observe and make intelligent/compassionate comments.

Blessings to everyone, DH

Hi DH ~

" OLD FARTS UNITE "
Yes, salty sea captain sounds much better.
I am not sure I ever agreed with prearranged lives. Perhaps it is the way of it, yet while here we have free will to choose, and that would mean we have the will to change it.
Prearranged is like destiny to me, in that if all our steps are counted, it matters not what we do while walking them, and we would not have choice to alter the overall course of them either.
As those that guide their days by the stars dictates, they usurp their free will to the stars dictates and walk the day as if control were just not possible over the days events and desires.

Just my thoughts on it.

WithIN love

Hi DH and Darrell and All ~ smiley

Ha! Ha! Ha! DH, I InJoy your laughter!! And I appreciate your Loving thoughts here. Namaste my Beloved Brother.

Darrell, wonderful thoughts streaming through you.

Prearranged or Pre-Ordained. Ordain for me is a term used by Royalty. That no matter what the experience is we are ImPowered for the whole experience no matter what shows up. First perhaps creating without realizing that we are creating and then the hide and go seek blinders come off and Oh Wow!! That's right!! I and Father are One. Divine Creators.

Destiny? Sounds limiting I agree. I just see it as coming full measure into who we have always been (Destination of the game you are agreeing to play, Find Home, it will be hidden and you will be so surprised to find IT is closer than than you thought) and from this point?....Open ticket, Oh the places we'll go. cheesy

The totality of possibilites. We ain't seen nothing yet!! And I mean this in A Whole Lotta Love to Be Making kind of way. wink

Translator Please!! cool

Love in Divine Spirit,

Julia

Hello everyone. All this talk about Destiny made me ask a important question. Has anyone here ever got bit by a Spider in a dream? Julia knows what i am talking about but I now only focused on this one aspect of my dream.
