The Mayan calendar ends in 2012
The Muslim calendar ends in 2076
The Jewish calendar ends in 2240
So what does this tell us?
Maybe they simply had to end the calendars at some point?
Maybe this could be explained by a lack of easy writing material?
Those calendars were produced in ancient times. The Mayan calendar was chiseled into stone and they simply could not go on chiseling the time continuum to infinity. I don’t really know what the Jewish and Muslim calendars were written on, but the sure thing is it was not paper spit out by a printer. They had to end those calendars at some point, which was so much out into the future for those ancient people that it might have been irrelevant for them where they ended them. They were most probably certain, that the future generations would continue with the calendar progression.
Mayas actually had two types of calendars, also used by Aztecs. One was a solar calendar based on 365 days year cycle, the other was the famous one that ends on December 12, 2012, used by the priests
You can read more about those calendars at these websites:

In any event, I am really very curious about December 12, 2012…
