There is a dichotomy in the Bible. It condems all sorts of occult and other metaphysical practices, yet it presents many miracles at the same time.
Here are examples of the “metaphysical” practices that Bible condems. It claims that such powers come from unclean spirits.
THE OCCULT - What does the Bible say about it?
http://www.christiananswers.net/q-eden/edn-occult.htmlThe Bible and the Occult:
Witchcraft, Wizards, Wicca, Sorcery, Magic, Spiritualism, Paganism, and Psychics
http://www.gospelway.com/religiousgroups/witchcraft.phpYet, at the same time, Bible is full of mystical and mysterious experiences, for instance, the gift of prophesy, or of seas being parted as in Moses and the Red Sea incident in the Old Testament. The New Testament is especially full of extraordinary accounts of people being healed of incurable diseases, of raising from dead (Christ and Lazarus), of water transmuted into wine, of walking on water, etc.
So, on the surface it appears there is a great contradiction of condemning metaphysical abilities on the one hand, and of performing all sorts of miracles on the other hand. So what is the difference between the para abilities that the Bible condemns, and those that it praises?
The only difference is that the Occult and other such practices are from the “self” and the unclean spirits that the self apparently contacts in those practices, where as the praised abilities are from God. The experiences from God are granted when a person asks God to intervene, and aligns himself with Godliness, with God’s “vibrations”. Each time when it is stated in the New Testament “ask and you will be given” it is also directly stated or strongly implied from the text “ask God and you will be given”.
Therefore Bible claims there are two domains, that which is directly under the authority of God, and then there is a domain which is under the authority of “unclean spirits” whom God grants a right to chose to be what they are – to be “unclean” = low vibrating. And those spirits being in the spirit world have access to power and knowledge. And they also have the ability of being nice, and pleasing, and even helpful, as was the Snake in the Garden of Eden.
Elsewhere in the forum Adrian had stated that we cannot generate ideas on our own, that our minds are only antennas that receive ideas from the outside. So who is there to claim that we can generate miracles on our own? Miracles are far more than simple ideas. Maybe the para abilities also come from the outside, and we have to choose whether they will come with the help of the “unclean spirits” or with the help of God.
